About Us

Our Mission

Our Mission Is Learning “We will ensure that all our children will learn more today than yesterday, and more tomorrow than today.”

School Profile

Our school serves students in grades K-5. We also house a state-run preschool program that serves over 100 children. Our total student enrollment is approximately 700 students. The Las Palmas staff consists of 31 certificated and 15 classified employees.

The instructional programs at Las Palmas are firmly aligned with the State Frameworks and Standards. The overall goal for all students is achievement at or above grade level in all areas of the curriculum. Teachers, students and parents work towards academic goals through intensive, quality instruction offered by highly qualified and fully credentialed teachers.

Las Palmas is a California Distinguished School and serves as a nationally recognized model for two-way language immersion. The school has highly qualified staff, and the involvement of parents as collaborators, advocates and learners is significant.

The widely-acclaimed Two Way Language Immersion Program is provided to students in grades kindergarten through five to over one-half of Las Palmas students.

It is a long term commitment that parents make when they choose Las Palmas during open enrollment. Parents drive students from all over Capistrano Unified School District and out of Orange County to participate in this Spanish/English program. Las Palmas operates as an alternative school under a waiver granted by the State Superintendent of Instruction. The families have the ability to continue in a Two Way Immersion Program when they leave Las Palmas since they matriculate into Bernice Ayer Middle School, which also provides two-way language immersion services to Las Palmas students after they leave the elementary setting. Students whose first language is not English participate in the Structured English Immersion Program which provides all instruction in English with limited support in their primary language. The third program is mainstream English which serves the remainder of the students in grades K-6.
